Google Ads Course: How To Pick The Right Course

A Google Ads course will help you learn the skills that you need to set up and manage effective campaigns.

There are many ways you can find a Google Ads course to help you skill up on this platform. One of these is through carrying out a search online.

In this article I’m going to share with you some suggestions on how to find the right Google Ads training course for your requirements.

1. Check out the Google Ads course tutor

One of the first things you’ll need to find out is who the tutor is on the Google Ads course that you want to take.

So, you should check out what experience they have with Google Ads and the number of years they’ve been working in the industry. It’s important to find someone that has years of practical experience setting up and managing pay per click campaigns in Google Ads, and not just someone with theoretical knowledge.

Ideally they should be a Google partner. This demonstrates that they have passed the rigorous Google exams and are actively managing campaigns that spend money on advertising on Google.

Also check if they are known and respected in the industry. A simple search on Google should bring up results that show what they have done in the past, like writing a book, speaking at conferences, tutoring and so on and you can check their LinkedIn profile to see this.

2. What is the Google Ads course curriculum?

Find out what will be taught on the course. This is important because it helps to see if it’s in line with what you need to learn.

Google Ads is a large platform with many ways to advertise in different networks and campaign types. For example, if you’re interested in learning Shopping ads but the Google Ads course only covers Search, then you may need to look elsewhere. Or you can find out if there is an option to include it.

3. Do you get Google Ads course certification?

Some people who want to learn this platform also want to receive a certificate that demonstrates the skills that they’ve acquired, to show potential clients or employers.

Many Google Ads courses provide certification and you can check out the PPC University here to see the available courses – and when you complete them you can download your certificates.

Google also provides Skillshop, a platform for marketers to learn Google Ads, Google Analytics and other Google platforms.

Signing up is free and you can do so easily at The courses here are highly regarded in the industry and will help you achieve Google partner status.

4. Is it online or in-person?

There are two primary ways you can learn in a Google Ads course. You can learn online on a platform like Zoom, and the Institute of Data & Marketing (IDM) offers a great course and I’m the tutor there.

And you could also learn in-person. A Google Ads consultant could train you and your team at your premises or at their premises if they offer that.

Both options can be in a group or one-to-one and there are some pros and cons to both.

With a group it can be a challenge to ask questions and to have a tailored Google Ads course to your particular requirements.  However, learning with others has many benefits including issues that could be raised and addressed based on different scenarios. And you can learn from each other.

5. What opportunities are out there?

You need to research the market to find out how a Google Ads course will help your career. So, check a job site if you’re intending to get a job in the industry and find out what employers are looking for.

Many job sites list jobs in the industry and you can get an idea of what employers are looking for and any other related skills like Google Analytics reporting.

6. What you want to achieve

Are you looking to take a Google Ads course to be a freelancer, agency consultant or work in-house with a company?

Many courses will help you to achieve any of these but some don’t provide certification which you may need for a job or even to get some clients.

Having certification and even Google partner status is great and will help you promote your services effectively and even get a job.

7. What level is the Google Ad course?

Is the Google Ads course a beginner, intermediate or advanced level course? Knowing this is important and it is often one of the easiest things you’ll find out.

If you’re not sure which level is right for you, then you should contact the provider or the tutor to discuss and find out. And they will assess your knowledge and then advise which is the right for course.

If you’re still not sure then it may be best to start with Beginner training so you can get a firm grounding.
